Something Warm (Nov 12 - Gratitude post)

I like it when temperatures drop and the Fall-Winter-Spring belt is my jam. What about Summer? [crickets].

While living in Brooklyn, I was recruited to become a Minnesota Vikings fan. If you’re thinking that doesn’t make any sense at all, I hear you. However, you can’t stop fate. Was I a Tennessee Titans fan after living in Nashville for nearly eight years? No thank you. Did I cheer for the Bears when I lived in Chicago? Not consistently. So there I was, in my mid-30’s, with no NFL team to support - a pro-football orphan if you will. But lo and behold, a group of nice Minnesotans welcomed me with open arms.

I was introduced to them through my friends Bekah and Ryan (also a Minnesotan) who i’d me through Apostles Brooklyn (church). They met these guys on a walk through their neighborhood in Greenpoint one day. The guys own a production studio and it has a garage door with a beautiful bar in the front of the space. The first time I went to watch a football game after church on Sunday, I knew i’d found some good people. They are funny, kind and easy to be around. From that moment on, I tried to go watch as many games with them as I could. And no matter how cold it was outside, the second I walked into that space, I warmed up.

My dad played college football for the Memphis State Tigers (now Univ. of Memphis). College football was always on TV or we were going to the games. Then I went to an SEC school for College and it was no different. When I moved to NYC to pursue acting, finding the actors that liked sports proved to be a little trickier. My Minnesota guys and their partners continue to be huge blessings and a source of familiarity. I’m incredibly thankful for who God has chosen to place in my life. The thought of my friends warms me right up!
